"Walk A Mile In My Shoes" is the first annual self-walk being held all across the country in honor of Alyson Roth who was paralyzed in a car accident on July 29, 2000. Obstacles have been overcome and lives have been changed because of her disability and though some days are hard, she realizes it's all for a reason and purpose. Sometimes one doesn't know the magnitude of an event in someone's life until that old cliche comes up to walk a mile in their shoes.
This event is done on your own time - by yourself or with friends - sometime during the day or evening of Friday, July 29th. All you have to do is walk a mile! C'mon, you can do it! That's 4 laps around a highschool track. Could it really be that hard? Absolutely not! So whether you walk, run, skiip, skate, push, or swim a mile, GO FOR IT!
Feel free to invite anyone to join this event! It's happening nationwide on YOUR time! It's ONLY a mile! You can do it!! And if you do it, please leave a comment and/or encouraging note on Facebook!
Thank you for helping to remember the significant, life altering situation that happened in her life 11 years ago and for honoring this day in such a special and meaningful way by doing something with purpose.
So, grab your shoes and a friend, and go "Walk A Mile In My Shoes"!!! Click here to sign up on Facebook!!

The detail to every aspect of the ceremony, each guest, and each gift was unsurpassed old-fashioned courtesy. Congratulations to Sarah and Anthony Von Ruden! The colors, sights, and smells are fantastic at the Rosemont Pavilion. Definitely an experience to remember forever as she got to meet the Rose Queen and Court, Stephanie Edwards (host of the Rose Parade), and the Grand Marshall, Captain C.B. Sully Sullenberger! He successfully successfully landed US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River off Manhattan, New York City, on January 15, 2009, saving the lives of all 155 people on the aircraft after the plane went abrubtly down due to birds flying into the aircraft causing both engines to become disabled. Alyson Roth crowned "Ms. Wheelchair California"
Alyson Roth was crowned "Ms. Wheelchair California, 2009" on April 4th in Sacramento, CA. She has accomplished many endeavors through activities like successfully in establishing a “Disability Awareness Week” where students learned about different disabilities and simulated them in order to understand the barriers that confronted students with disabilities at her college. She taught music in the public and private school sector before joining Free Wheelchair Mission in 2007. Free Wheelchair Mission is a non-profit organization that distributes wheelchairs to 71 countries around the world to the poorest people with disabilities.
Alyson continued her advocacy by speaking at both the National Association for Music Education’s National Convention (2004) with her session entitled “Barrier-free Music Education: Concepts of Inclusion” and the National Orff Schulwerk Association National Convention (2005) with her session entitled “Mainstreaming the Process”. These sessions taught other music educators how to turn able-bodied music lessons into lessons that included those children with disabilities in the mainstreamed classroom. She has also written several articles and been published in several magazines regarding disability awareness.
Yosemite National Park is now more wheelchair friendly and ADA compliant due to Alyson’s input while sitting on the Board of Directors. She has assisted Habitat for Humanity to help build a house for a disabled member of the Atlanta inner-city community. In an attempt to bring more recognition to those with disabilities, Alyson presented the “Ability through Mobility” Award to four recipients around the country for their outstanding work within their community despite their disability. She has traveled to Nicaragua to work at an orphanage for children with disabilities and teach music at a school for the blind. Alyson has also traveled to Mexico to deliver wheelchairs to the country’s poorest people with disabilities and has had the opportunity to collaborate with the former president of Mexico, President Vicente Fox, about the importance of providing wheelchairs to the citizens of Mexico in addition to providing aide and healthcare to everyone.
Alyson remains a positive role-model within her community, nation, and world through all that she does.
